Women of the Future
Julienne van Loon
In Women of the Future, novelist, non-fiction writer and academic Julienne van Loon celebrates the impact of leading women scientists who have dedicated their lives to fixing our planet.
Each essay braids a material problem – air, water, food, shelter, energy and waste – with the life and work of a scientist: Polish-born Australian nuclear physicist Lidia Morowska; Indian climate change expert Aditi Mukherji; US agronomist and climatologist Cynthia Rosenzweig; Kenyan sustainable energy engineer Rose Mutiso; British feminist peace, gender and disaster researcher Punam Yadav, and the Hong Kong collective Women in Waste, and some of the women rubbish collectors known as the ‘cardboard grannies’. All a hopeful reminder of the social and material impact of leading women experts.
